Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Mulliner Bentley's custom coachbuilding unit, has designed a distinctive keycase to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Bentley. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set of keys, and a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

Aesthetics
As a company that is primarily focused on design, Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. It is evident in the precise positioning of its quilting, the use of leather that is made from leftovers from cattle and sustainable managed forests, as well as the unique patterns of its levers. Design

Personalisation
Bentley's Mulliner division allows customers to design their own vehicle. The guests sit at a collection of images referred to as "mood stations" and choose a selection of photos - from scenic vistas to sporting events - that will inspire them. As each selection is made, a pattern emerges which shows the design and color preferences for the customized Bentley.
The configuration that is created is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled key cards that are then presented to the guests in a handmade key case. The keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps which light the door's opening pathway with the owner's name or emblem as they are approaching the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it requires 500 man-hours to build and assemble the Mulsanne. One of the main reasons for that lengthy effort is a reluctance to embrace the latest technology. Instead of using a machine to space the perfectly matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers are required to park their vehicles manually, not using sensors built-in to guide them into perpendicular and paralell spots.
The event also saw Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization options with one particular example that was the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars come with a key that displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
